Jeffery Deaver’s Colter Shaw Series to Continue in 2020 with ‘The Goodbye Man’

Fans of Lincoln Rhyme will have to wait a little longer for his return, as New York Times bestselling author Jeffery Deaver is set to release The Goodbye Man, the second book in his Colter Shaw series, on May 12, 2020.

While fans have no doubt been waiting for a follow-up to Deaver’s 2018 novel, The Cutting Edge, the 14th book featuring forensic genius Lincoln Rhyme, they will soon have the chance to see him on the small screen in the NBC Pilot Lincoln, where he’ll be portrayed by actor Russell Hornsby. That project is slated to hit television sometime in 2020, and there’s a good chance that Deaver will drop a new Rhyme book within a year of that.

In fact, back in May of this year, Deaver told The Real Book Spy in an exclusive Q&A about his last book, “I’m working on both another Colter Shaw novel and a Lincoln Rhyme novel,” before teasing that the two characters might one day meet.

As for Shaw, an expert tracker and the protagionist in Deaver’s acclaimed novel The Never Game, he’ll be at the center of Next year’s The Goodbye Man, where he’ll head to Washington State in search of two suspects accused of burning down a church and shooting two members as they attempted to escape the flames. Of course, as Deavers’ readers have come to know, there’s a good chance that Colter will end up finding more trouble than he bargained for—and it’s probably safe to expect a plot-shifting twist or two along the way.

The Goodbye Man.jpgA thrilling new Colter Shaw adventure by the master of suspense, Jeffery Deaver.

Colter Shaw, the itinerant reward-seeker readers met in The Never Game, returns in a new adventure.

Colter takes on a new case when he learns of a reward–two, actually–being offered in Gig Harbor, a small spot in Washington State. Two white teenagers decided to deface a few black churches, and then to set one aflame. But as it turns out, it wasn’t empty. And when the preacher and the janitor emerged from the burning building, they were shot–and the suspects drove off.

So state police and the town are offering $50,000 for help in finding the two suspects. The family of one of the two suspects is offering $900 for help in proving his innocence.

Game for a challenge, hungry to see justice done, and intrigued by the forces in opposition in this specific case, Colter drives north and west…only to discover that no case comes without its unexpected complications, or without its considerable dangers.
