Last time around, Dave was a tortured man, still dealing with the loss of his wife when he becomes the prime suspect in the murder investigation of the man responsible for her death. Gritty, raw, and honest, Robicheaux was one of Burke’s best novels in years. That said, having just read an advance copy ofThe New Iberia Blues, and without giving anything away, I like it just a touch better for a number of reasons. Ultimately, it’s up to Robicheaux to stop them all, but he’ll have to summon a light he’s never seen or felt to save himself, and those he loves.
